Rolex and the Monte-carlo Rolex Masters
Renowned Swiss watch brand, Rolex, not only enjoys unrivalled reputation for quality and expertise in precise watchmaking, but it is also a symbol of excellence, elegance and prestige. The esteemed brand often partners with major sport events and federations such as the International Tennis Federation.
Rolex has been a proud partner of Monte-carlo Rolex Masters for the past 12 years, becoming its Title Sponsor in 2009. This April, four Rolex Testimonees were among an impressive field of players competing at the prestigious Monte-carlo Rolex Masters. Three of the individuals are currently ranked in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) top 10 – Canada’s Milos Raonic, Austria’s Dominic Thiem and Frenchman Jo-wilfried Tsonga. Not forgetting the fourth player, Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov.
One of the greatest games within the international tennis calendar was played against a spectacular setting over the Mediterranean backdrop. All four players have the credentials to win the class claycourt tournament. Milos Raonic reached the singles final at The Championships,
Wimbledon in 2016. At 1.96m, he towers over most of his opponents and has one of the most powerful serves on the circuit. Dominic Thiem is a strong baseliner who loves challenging the clay. He won the Rio Open in February 2017, and reached the semi-finals of the French Open in 2016. Jowilfried Tsonga is the 2008 Australian Open finalist who has been in tiptop condition this year, winning tournaments in Rotterdam and Marseille. Last but definitely not the least, Grigor Dimitrov, ranked world’s number 8 in 2014, had won two titles this year, in Brisbane and Sofia.
The ties that bind Rolex and the Montecarlo Rolex Masters showcases the rich history between the brand and tennis, established in 1978 when Rolex became the Official Timekeeper at Wimbledon, one of the most illustrated Grand Slam tournaments. Rolex’s support extends towards other top tournaments too, including other Grand Slam events and the Australian Open. Roger Federer, one of the best tennis players in the world, is also a Rolex Testimonee. The exceptional athlete is a living legend in the history of tennis and this year’s Australian Open win will be his 18th Grand Slam title.
Other Rolex Testimonees include legendary players inducted each year on the occasion into the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. These include Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard, Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki, Germany’s Angelique Kerber and Spanish Venezuelan Garbiñe Muguruza.
