A competition to design a golf club resulted in the creation of Wilson’s stunning new Triton

-

It took 16 months to perfect and won its designer half-a-million dollars. But what makes Wilson Staff’s Triton driver so special is that it was crowned the winner of a TV contest.

While we’ve been subjected to X Factor and I’m a Celebrity, the Golf Channel has been treating US viewers to its first “Driver vs Driver” reality golf show.

The amateur design competition saw Eric Sillies – a 26-year-old industrial designer from Cincinnati – walk off with a cool US$500,000 for creating what Wilson is calling the “world’s most adjustable multi-piece driver yet”.

The Triton, which comes equipped with an adjustable head, CG and MOI, got the thumbs up from two-time PGA

Tour winner Kevin Streelman – one of five judges who picked it – and went on sale last month in the US.

The club features two detachable sole plates – one heavy, one lighter – so you can dial in launch bias and spin rates.

For an extra boost of customisation, there are three adjustable weight ports to optimise ball flight, as well as a six-way Fast Fit adjustable hosel to configure loft and lie angles.

The Triton is available now.

Sole plates

Choose between a 22g titanium sole plate for a mid-to-high launch and low spin, or a 9g carbon one for a more penetrating ball flight and lower spin.
