A More Compact Tactical Package Dials In Wedge Performance

-

Callaway’s Mack Daddy 4 Tactical sets a new standard for wedge performance, as industry legend Roger Cleveland and Callaway R&D, with heavy influence from Tour pro input, marries an aggressive look to performance with a distinct new Tactical PVD Finish, Black PVD Face and black medallions. The Tactical package includes a limited edition Black Tour Issue shaft and a Lamkin Tactical grip.

Roger Cleveland’s work on Tour refining shapes, soles, grinds and camber led to a more Tour-inspired compact shape, straighter leading edge, tighter leading-edge radius and slightly more offset, compared to the MD3 and MD4 wedges. The resulting tighter radius makes clean contact easier on tight lies for maximum spin and control.

Callaway’s Groove-in-groove

Technology combines a unique host of features for more shot-stopping spin. The main grooves are saw-cut and horizontal milled to precise tolerances, and the lower lofted 50 degree and 52 degree wedges feature a 20D groove for consistent spin on fuller shots, while the higher lofted wedges from 54 degree upwards feature an aggressive 5D groove for maximum control out of the rough and around the green. The 16- groove configuration includes an extra “Nip-it” groove near the leading edge for added control, especially on short shots. The Micro-positive surface roughness milled into the flat parts of the face extends the length of the hitting area, with microgrooves between the ridges that help grab the ball’s cover to increase spin significantly on a variety of shots. This combination of grooves plus microgrooves provides 84 different contact points to grab the cover.

MD4 Tactical wedges are available in two grind options, both offering smooth turf interaction and solid feel. The S Grind with a 10 degree bounce, features a medium-width sole with slight chamber at the back and moderate heel relief to keep the leading edge low through impact, promoting solid contact on openfaced shots. The X Grind in 12 degrees of bounce, is the newest and features a narrow, high-bounce crescent sole, with the low point near the front. Excellent for moderate-to-steep attack angles and medium-to-soft course conditions.

Wedges are all about feel, and with the MD4 Tactical, begins with the soft 8620 carbon steel head with the raw tactical finish. The system of four weight ports and milled aluminum medallions positions the head’s CG upward as loft increases for a solid feel, enhanced further by the shaft and premium grip.

The new raw PVD finish is visually striking and delivers a distinct and aggressive look that stands out on its own, accentuating the Black PVD face and black medallions. The Black Temper Tour Issue 115 shafts with tactical labels and Tactical Lamkin UTX grips with green end caps complete the new aggressive look.

Available in 6 different lofts from 50 to 60 degrees, in right and left handed versions.
