A TOUCH OF WHIMSY
If you’re in Vienna later this year, pass by the Kunsthistorisches Museum for a touch of Wes Anderson whimsy. The acclaimed American filmmaker and his partner Juman Malouf, author and costume designer, were invited by the museum to curate a unique exhibition. Entitled Spitzmaus Mummy in a Coffin
and Other Treasures, the exhibition was created on a rather daunting premise: The museum invited the director and costume designer to comb through more than four million objects in the museum, both on public display and stored in the museum’s labyrinthine storage rooms and to select their favourites. The exhibition should prove to be an interesting one, with objects from all 14 museum collections on display. Objects from the Museum of Natural History, Vienna, will also be included. It is the first exhibition that Wes Anderson and Juman Malouf have curated, and will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.
