Resembling truth
For a long time, he was lesser known than many of his contemporaries; today, Jasper Johns is recognised as one of the most influential artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. This comprehensive survey of his work, the first to be held in the UK, is at London's Royal Academy of Arts and features more than 150 pieces from the artist's 60-year career, comprising sculptures, drawings and prints – with some new works as well. The exhibition's title ( Jasper Johns: Something Resembling Truth) comes from a statement he once made about his art: “One hopes for something resembling truth, some sense of life, even of grace, to flicker, at least, in the work.” See it before December 10.
