AFTER WORKING TOGETHER on renowned cinematographer Christopher Doyle and first-time director Jenny Suen team up again for the visually captivating, emotionally beguiling drama
Born with a sun allergy, the White Girl lives in the disappearing fishing community of Pearl Village, but all she wants to do is escape. At night, she meets a mysterious Japanese outsider by the sea, and her world begins to grow bigger. Meanwhile, her only friend, an inquisitive young boy, catches on to the connection between the village chief and a group of visiting property developers. Starring local girl and icon Angela Yuen, along with Japanese actor Joe Odagiri, the work premiered at the London Film Festival last month and will be closing the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival on November 20. "She is very dreamy all the time and I share this with her," says Yuen of the character she plays. "I daydream and imagine things a lot to make the world become boundless, infinite and big." And before you ask – no, those superabundant pearls around Angela's neck (pictured above) are not Chanel. (
