STYLISH YET PRACTICAL

-

As you step into this ultra-stylish office space, fitted with floor-toceiling glass windows, black stone walls and wood-and-brick flooring, you probably wouldn’t have guessed that you are in the Hong Kong headquarters of a trading company. An award-winning design project by Aidance Design Limited, it holds a special place in the heart of the company’s Managing Director Vincci Chung. According to Chung, the most unique aspect of its design is that its minimalistic approach successfully satisfied the client’s three key requirements: a large space, the versatility to be used as an exhibition hall, and include several meeting rooms with high levels of privacy.

“That’s the most memorable thing for me about this project,” Chung says. “In the beginning, the client, Japanese company Shimada Shoji, only gave us three requirements for the design of their office. Because it’s a trading company, they needed a showroom set up like a retail store, as well as some private meeting rooms for the staff to meet their customers. However, at the same time, they also organise big company events once in a while, so they wanted a large open space designed for those occasions.”

To meet these three points, Chung says, glass partitions were extensively used in the design and movable partition walls were installed for the client to readjust the space according to their specific needs. By allowing customers to get a good look at the products, the well-lit showroom provides a comfortable space for customers and helps the company to seal the deal.

In addition, the designers incorporated stylish details such as concrete flooring and large wooden cabinets that give the office a sleek and modern look. “We spent a lot of time in the beginning discussing with the client and explained to them every single design concept in detail,” Chung recalls. “It was a meticulous process, but when the client was happy with what we produced, it was all worth it.”

As a leading designer in the industry, what advice does Chung give to young people interested in pursuing interior design? Chung says, “Stay passionate, stay hungry.”
