“Intimate” isn’t the first word you’d use to describe the bars near Mong Kok’s Ladies’ Market, but that’s exactly the vibe Alibi offers. Tucked inside the Cordis Hotel, the lounge’s nautical colour scheme and tufted furniture provide a sleek atmosphere that attracts a well-heeled crowd of young professionals. The cocktail menu, dreamed up by mixologist Leo Cheung, is just as cool. Traditionalists can enjoy classic libations such as the Negroni, while more adventurous drinkers should try the Earl Grey, a perfectly sweet mix of tea and rosé that’s a sexy spin on the fashionable set’s summer wine. Most of the dishes we tried on the menu, which feel like elevated bar food, hit the mark. A standout is the tender smoked pigeon that’s been slow-cooked for hours and glazed in maple. However, for a venue that boasts an extensive wine selection (and a rare list of small grower champagnes), the waitstaff seemed unsure when suggesting wine and cocktail pairings, and they were a bit on the slow side when delivering our dishes. Still, Alibi is a consideration as an after-hours destination.
