Yardbird

-

HK$500 per person

Thanks to a cracking drinks programme, excellent chicken yakitori and increasingly exciting vegetable dishes, Yardbird remains one of the city’s most reliable spots for a great night out. The large space is as busy, occasionally chaotic and noisy as ever, but you don’t come here for tablecloths and candles. You come (and usually wait) for the vibe, the crowd, the music, the Japanese cocktails and, most of all, the food. Chicken cuts are on the board until they run out, so get in early for the oyster, the inner thigh, and the meatball that’s dipped in the silky egg yolk and soy sauce mix. Our waiter was borderline shocked when we ordered a second Korean Fried Cauliflower (the famed KFC), but it’s the sort of dish that gets a hold of you. An aubergine salad was also excellent, though definitely on the small side for HK$125, but the Brussels sprouts are worth every cent. Yardbird’s consistency is remarkable and that means it’s rightly a favourite for locals and visitors alike.
