Yamazato

MOP1500 per person

A sense of calm exudes from the airy, minimalistic space that’s decked out in light woods and is undeniably Japanese. The à la carte menu is succinct while managing to cover a lot of ground, from sashimi and sushi to tempura and grilled dishes, and from shabu shabu to rice bowls and Inaniwa udon. What we’d recommend, however, is Yamazato’s seasonal kaiseki menu, available at dinner or as a mini kaiseki set at lunch. In early autumn, we enjoyed a set in which

chrysanthemum played a starring role. No detail is too small here and everything is done with a subtle, creative flair and precision. We particularly enjoyed the conger pike with gingko nuts in dobin teapot, the sashimi and the grilled Pacific saury with sudachi. At an extra cost, you can request for the rice course to be substituted for the sea urchin on rice, served with a helping of pickles. A meal wouldn’t be complete without sake here, and the friendly staff are more than happy to talk you through the list.
