Satisfying contemporary Portuguese food is executed flawlessly at this stalwart of a restaurant. Stepping inside, you’re welcomed by the warm service and it’s a joy to sink into the cosy armchairs and be presented with a basket full of hot, freshly-baked bread—the brioche studded with hearty chunks of chorizo is the stuff of legends. Bacalhau and snail croquettes are light and crisp with a creamy garlic-enhanced filling, and beautifully presented as bite-sized morsels. Staff are happy to help divide portions for sharing, too, so you can enjoy a greater variety of dishes—don’t miss the caldo verde soup with chorizo, which is comforting yet surprisingly light, or the signature seafood rice with Boston lobster, shrimps and clams. So abundant with seafood is the latter dish that you can barely see the rice for all the fresh, plump and perfectly cooked shellfish atop. Definitely order a glass or two of Portuguese wine from the extensive Lisboa list, and finish with the thin fig tart stewed with port wine, served with caramel ice cream.
