TVS Tyres launches ‘PROTORQ’ radial tyres for motorcycles

- ACI Bureau ACI

TVS Tyres, one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of two-and three-wheeler tyres and off-road tyres in India, has launched high performance radial tyres, ‘PROTORQ’, for motorcycles. PROTORQ is best suited for premium bikes.

The company has said that PROTORQ has been exclusively built for the Indian roads by using the latest advancements in technology. Using the ‘Zero Degree Radial Belt’ technology, these tyres provide enhanced traction and reliable braking, excellent riding comfort, exceptional high speed stability, superior grip and less stiffness. PROTORQ is equipped with an innovative force-oriented tread pattern which improves its mileage and ensures maximum water drainage.

TVS Tyres has extensive R&D to develop its products. With PROTORQ , a technologically superior product suitable for the needs and trends of the changing market, the company aims to accelerate and strengthen its brand presence in the two-wheeler tyre market. In the first phase, this radial tyre is available in Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

P Vijayaraghavan, Director, TVS Srichakra Ltd said, “Durability is the focus area for TVS Tyres range of products. The PROTORQ high performance radial tyre is our answer to fulfill the customer needs and provide technologically superior products to keep pace with the dynamism in the market. PROTORQ is aimed at strengthening our leadership position in the two-wheeler tyre market and to reinforce customers’ faith in our world class products.”

TVS Srichakra, is the leading manufacturer of two-and threewheeler tyres and off-road tyres and is part of the TVS Group, which is the largest auto ancillary group in India, with a turnover of over $ 8 billion. Incorporated in 1982, the company manufactures and markets its products under the ‘TVS Tyres’ and ‘EUROGRIP’ brands. The company rolls out around 2.3 million to 2.5 million tyres every month from its 2 units in Madurai (Tamil Nadu) and Pantnagar (Uttarakhand). The company enjoys the highest market share among the two-wheeler manufacturers in India and has a vast nationwide distribution and dealership network to cater to the aftermarket demand.

The two-wheeler industry volumes are likely to register 7-8% year- on-year (YoY) growth in 201617, company sources said. The company’s aftermarket numbers grew well and it could retain the lead position with the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) also. It hopes to continue this trend in the coming years also.

Raw materials continue to be stable, though the natural rubber price has been going up marginally in the last few months. But this is not expected to affect significantly the performance of TVS Tyres in 2016-17.

However, the company’s fortunes would depend on the performance of the two-and three-wheeler industry as a whole. The twowheeler industry grew only by 1.6% last year but this year it is expected to grow 7-8%, mainly owing to the Union Budget allocation to the rural sector. The good monsoon forecast also would boost the sales of motorcycles and scooters.

Because of the increased exports of two-wheelers from India to Africa, South America and other countries there has been more demand for Indian two-wheeler tyres. This factor has helped TVS Tyres to boost the exports of two-and three-wheeler tyres. TVS Srichakra exports its two-and three-wheeler and tractor tyres to more than 80 countries.

The off-road tyres from the company include industrial pneumatic tyres, skid steer and multi purpose tyres, farm and implement tyres, motorgrader and agriculturaltyres.
