- Text: Anusha B ACI

Myers Tire Supply India Ltd (MTS), a Joint Venture of TVS Automobile Solutions Ltd (TVS ASL) and Ohio-based Myers Tire Supply International Inc., offers wide range of tyre servicing tools and accessories for retreading of tyres in the Indian market. The company which also distributes the Kwik Patch brand of tyre repair patches manufactured by Kwik Patch Ltd, now plans to enter retreading business and to open multibrand car service centres. MTS has tie-up with many big brand tyre manufacturers and wants to expand the collaboration to others in a phased manner.

At present MTS distributes 8 categories of products for tyre retreading and it is known as a one-stop shop for retreading tools and accessories. It supplies the complete line of tyre valve hardware, tyre patches, tyre changing tools, equipments, wheel weights, tyre wheel alignment tools (tyre servicing consumables), bonding gums, and Black Vulcanising Cement (BVC).

“We serve as a Single Point Of Contact (SPOC) for retreading tool-buy. We supply everything except the capital goods and transfer the warranty of the manufacturer to our customers,” Durai Ganesh, Deputy General Manager, MTS India, said.

MTS follows ‘Myer Industries Business Model’ which is already

a hit in the US market. “We are just a 10-month old company with many plans. We want to make Chennai our location hub for the South East Asian market. There is big competition from the cheap Chinese products. But we score on the superior quality of our service. However, customers often focus on the cost and will not consider the service parameters,” Ganesh said.

MTS also maintains online stores to sell products like air inflator, battery operated inflators, tyre pressure gauges, tubeless repair kits, tyre changing tools to name a few to the customers. The B2C segment is expected to take off well as the customers are capable of fixing many of the problems. It is not always necessary to have the assistance of a technician or a sales point. “We have to be proactive to support them with the products. Also, ‘Generation Y’ customers always rely on IoT and we are here with the solutions for them,” Ganesh said.

Complete solutions

MTS provides complete solutions for tyre repairs and maintenance services including modern repair process for passenger car, CVs and offroad equipment. The business model will be customised and implemented in India to suit the requirements of Indian market and customers. The expertise of Myers will also be shared through the training of technicians in handling/ repairing new-age tyers and wheels.

It has appointed experienced sales people across the country. “We have offices in Chennai, Madurai, Salem, Kozhikode, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Pune and Kolkata. We store our products in our stores and also in the warehouses of TVS. As a distributor, we also buy certain products of very good quality but without an established brand name. We brand them in our name. The tyre market is highly unorganised and many of the players are not professionals. Some of the second generation are forward looking professionals who are keen to be more organised, whom we will be targeting” Ganesh concluded.
