AIS to set up au­to­mo­tive glass plant in Gu­jarat

Asahi In­dia Glass Ltd (AIS) plans to in­vest up to Rs 500 crore in a ‘Green­field Au­to­mo­tive Glass Plant’ near Mehsana in Gu­jarat. The in­vest­ment is be­ing made mainly to meet the au­to­mo­tive glass re­quire­ments of the new plant of Maruti Suzuki In­dia Ltd (MSIL) in the State. The com­pany will make the in­vest­ment in the fa­cil­ity in 2 phases, which is to be im­ple­mented in mod­ules. In the first phase, the plant will have ca­pac­i­ties to pro­duce 1 mil­lion lam­i­nated glasses and 1.2 mil­lion tem­pered glass sets per an­num. AIS said that this in­vest­ment will ex­pand its foot­print across In­dia with man­u­fac­tur­ing plants and ad­vanced sub-assem­bly units across mul­ti­ple lo­ca­tions in the coun­try. San­jay Labroo, MD and CEO, AIS, said the com­pany has al­ways re­mained com­mit­ted to cus­tomer sat­is­fac­tion be­yond qual­ity, costs, de­liv­ery, de­vel­op­ment, and man­age­ment. AIS’ sym­bi­otic re­la­tion­ship with MSIL will be fur­ther strength­ened with this green­field in­vest­ment near the car maker’s Gu­jarat plant, he added. “The new plant will be a state-of-the-art fa­cil­ity, equipped with the lat­est global tech­nolo­gies in au­to­mo­tive glass, and also have the abil­ity to man­u­fac­ture the en­tire range of higher value-added au­to­mo­tive glass prod­ucts,” Labroo said. He also said AIS will con­tinue with its ex­pan­sion pro­grammes, both green­field and brown­field, to strengthen its po­si­tion as In­dia’s lead­ing value-added and in­te­grated glass com­pany.
