AIS to set up automotive glass plant in Gujarat
Asahi India Glass Ltd (AIS) plans to invest up to Rs 500 crore in a ‘Greenfield Automotive Glass Plant’ near Mehsana in Gujarat. The investment is being made mainly to meet the automotive glass requirements of the new plant of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) in the State. The company will make the investment in the facility in 2 phases, which is to be implemented in modules. In the first phase, the plant will have capacities to produce 1 million laminated glasses and 1.2 million tempered glass sets per annum. AIS said that this investment will expand its footprint across India with manufacturing plants and advanced sub-assembly units across multiple locations in the country. Sanjay Labroo, MD and CEO, AIS, said the company has always remained committed to customer satisfaction beyond quality, costs, delivery, development, and management. AIS’ symbiotic relationship with MSIL will be further strengthened with this greenfield investment near the car maker’s Gujarat plant, he added. “The new plant will be a state-of-the-art facility, equipped with the latest global technologies in automotive glass, and also have the ability to manufacture the entire range of higher value-added automotive glass products,” Labroo said. He also said AIS will continue with its expansion programmes, both greenfield and brownfield, to strengthen its position as India’s leading value-added and integrated glass company.
