Future BMW SUVs revealed

Exclusive renderings of BMW’s forthcoming SUVs inside

-

BMW is all set to start an SUV revolution. A host of new models are scheduled to be unveiled soon and a lot of them are brand new. Existing variants are also going through a major upgrade. We bring you exclusive information about BMW’s new trio of SUVs. Let’s begin with the biggest of them all, the X7.

The X7 will be the brand’s flagship model. The company recently showcased a concept version of the same at the Frankfurt motor show and now we have exclusive render- ing of the same. The SUV will be based on the company’s Cluster Architecture modular platform, which also underpins the company’s flagship sedan, the 7-series. Our rendering shows that the X7 will get the large kidney-shaped grille like the one seen in the concept, new LED headlamps and a muscular front bumper with large air dams. The profile though looks rather smooth for an SUV. There are minimal flares and bodylines which help give the X7 a smoother look. Powering the new X7 will be new straight six motors along with V8 options. Production will start in American facilities this year.

After only five years of building it, BMW is going to replace the 2013 BMW X5 by an all-new model in 2018. Code-named G05, the SUV will be based around the innovative Cluster Architecture (CLAR) which is lighter, stiffer and more flexible than today’s platform. The CLAR will be used by all future SUVs and passenger cars from the 3-series and X3 upwards. Featuring identical exterior measurements to the outgoing model,

also design-wise the new X5 will be quite close to its predecessor—it’s more evolution than revolution. But under the bonnet, a huge range of engines will be available from the start: four, six- and eight-cylinder engines will offer power up to 700bhp.

As for the third one, the X2. Billed as a sporty alternative to the X1, the X2 resembles a high-riding hatchback as it features a rakish windscreen, a compact greenhouse, and a gently sloping roof. The model also has a sporty front fascia with a wide grille that is flanked by sweptback headlights. Other notable features include an angular beltline, a dual exhaust system, and a small rear lift gate with an integrated spoiler. The X2 model will ride on the front-wheel UKL platform that underpins the X1. Expect it to be powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder that produces 228 horsepower and we also hear that a juicy M Power variant will also arrive soon.
