The glitz and glamour of the Auto Expo 2018

- Yogendra Pratap Editor yogendra.pratap@intoday.com @YogenPratap

This issue of the magazine is dedicated to the Auto Expo 2018 and so it should be, with over 75 pages devoted to the country’s only, pan-India motor show. In case you were there, you can get all the details and those that you missed out on. If you weren’t, then grab a copy of the issue to know what’s new and trending. From celebrity glitz, cars, motorcycles to even trucks and buses, we have it all covered.

With the auto expo on, it is difficult to take one’s attention away but there was also the reveal of the Ford Freestyle this month apart from a couple of other launches. Ford is going the right way, adding more body-styles to the platform that underpin the Figo and the Aspire, and with its new and cheaper and more fuel efficient Dragon engine downscaled to three-cylinders for the Freestyle, the company seems to be upping its game. It seems to be getting ready for an even more crowded marketplace with both Kia Motors and PSA Group (owners of brands like Peugeot and Citroen) gearing up to make their mark. At the framework installation ceremony of the Kia plant in Andhra Pradesh, my colleagues got an opportunity to drive some cars. They were rather impressed, as was I, with the Stinger that I drove a few months earlier. Amongst the first cars made here will be a sub-4m SUV and a compact SUV. From what one has seen with Kia globally and with the SP-concept that was showcased at the expo, it is going to be an interesting couple of years ahead. For the first time in a long time, there will be three to four new brands that aim to establish themselves in India. The bike market has also seen some action with two good products being unveiled this month. First is the Ntorq and the other is the Xpulse, Hero MotoCorp’s first foray into the adventure motorcycle segment in India.

Read about all this and more in this Auto Expo special issue and drive and ride safe. Catch you on our weekly AUTO TODAY show on INDIA TODAY TV over the weekend and if not, then next month in these very pages of the magazine.
