Hyundai Xcent
Model SX
The Xcent unlike its counterparts in this test received a mild makeover. Even though the changes in this car aren’t as substantial, the spec changes give the Xcent a fighting shot when pitted against the competition. The sedan from Hyundai has gotten a new set of headlamps and LED daytime lights which are mounted on the front bumpers. Add to this a new set of wheels as well. The rear though has been through a substantial redesign with a new boot lid and tail lamps as well. Boot space is rated at 407 litres and that’s a quite large.
Interior upgrades include a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen displaying navigation, music playback, Blu- etooth telephony and a reversing camera. This system incorporates a clean layout with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
Under the hood sits the upgraded diesel motor that sees a minor jump in displacement, power and torque. What this new motor has endowed is smoother power delivery and a certain degree of linear power delivery. The motor also feels relatively less stressed as compared to the outgoing motor. The more appreciable traits of the engine lie in its refinement despite being a 3-cylinder motor. At regular commuting speeds the engine is just about audible as controlled NVH levels in the cabin remain as a big plus for the Xcent. Ride quality is just as it was before where both slow and higher speed ride remains pliant and passengers, comfortable. The steering though feels rather lifeless especially at high speeds. On the up side it is ultra light and this means city driving is a breeze.
