Trying to get the best out of the Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbo petrol fuel efficiency wise has been a bit tricky as I discovered during my first full month with the car. Turbocharged petrol engine’s, such as the one powering the Nexon, tend to be very sensitive to driving style. I haven’t been particularly light footed which seems to be the major cause for the fuel consumption dipping to around 10kmpl. This translates to a range of around 350km which is far from ideal especially keeping long haul trips in mind.
The other thing that played a villain here was neglecting tyre pressures. By the end of the first couple of weeks with the Nexon, the tyre pressures read way below than the recommended figures. Correcting them led to a marked uptick in the fuel efficiency department. It seems like this back forth between 10kmpl and 15kmpl will continue over the coming months as I try to hit the sweet spot.
I’m also looking forward to trying out the Eco mode. It will dumb down throttle response which should help achieve better figures. I did give driving in Eco mode during the past for at least a few hundred kilometres a try, but found myself switching to City or Sport much sooner than planned as the Nexon is definitely much more enjoyable in those modes.
