IPS OFFICER (RETD.) HYDERABAD, TELANGANA

Kaur Menon joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1983 and retired as Director General of Police heading the Telangana State Special Protection Force. For her, though, it was only retirement from a salaried job. She has worked tirelessly towards the betterment of society. She is the inaugural president of the Telangana Sikh Society, founded in 2018, which has a wide social outreach and makes interventions to attend to the health and education needs of the poor in Telangana. Tejdeep Kaur Menon is also a poet having written on varied subjects including women empowerment, conservation of nature and biodiversity protection. An IPS officer, advocate of women’s rights, environmentalist and poet; she is the epitome of limitless potential. Her multifaceted personality is an impetus for all women to explore their higher calling.

From Ranchi, we headed further south passing through Odisha, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh on our way to Hyderabad in Telangana to meet the next driver of change. The roads were fine, but the landscapes were gorgeous. So much so, that they warranted frequent stops to capture their beauty on our cameras. This did, however, mean we were falling behind schedule. Requesting the camera crew to pass up on an opportunity to capture the magnificence of these locations proved futile warranting an overnight stop earlier than planned in Sambalpur, Odisha instead of Raipur in Chattisgarh. Driving at night shed light, quite literally, on another extremely helpful feature of the XUV700 – the headlamp auto boost function. At speeds over 80kmph, the additional LEDs in the headlamps get activated lighting up the road ahead for improved visibility. This also highlights just how well Mahindra understands Indian conditions, buyers’ needs and the sheer amount of thought that has gone into the development of this SUV. The highway leading up to Raipur and then to Nagpur, though, was in great shape for the most part which meant we were able to make up plenty of lost time and realign with the original schedule. Of course, playing a starring role in helping us to that were the XUV700s we had for company, munching miles at a steady pace with consummate ease.

We were greeted by Tejdeep Kaur Menon in the midst of a massive health checkup camp in Hyderabad that she helped organize, giving us an instant introduction to her work towards the betterment of the society. Her aura of strength, determination and authority and the insights into her journey served as yet another reminder of why this journey spanning days and thousands of kilometres was absolutely worth it.
