-

It is with a heavy heart that we report that a great Italian rider and multiple Italian Motorcycle Champion, Fabrizio Pirovano, passed away recently due to an incurable illness. Pirovano was among the first racers to participate in the first-ever WSBK championship which started in 1988. Fabrizio ended the first-ever WSBK season as a runner-up and even had a win in the inaugural year of the series. In the following year Pirovano won multiple races in the championship, including a double win at his home race in Monza. He repeated the same result in 1992 at Monza. In 1992, Pirovano won his first CIV (Campionato Italiano Velocità) or the Italian championship and after that he went on to claim the title two more times in 1993 and 1994.

Fabrizio moved from Superbike to Supesport in 1997 where he took his first race win in his first year in Supersport championship. In 1998, Fabrizio went on to become the Supersport Champion with five wins. The racing world will remember this colourful Italian for his excellent contribution to the sport.
