Moto2
WORLD CHAMP JOHANN Zarco (Ajo Kalex) scored a brilliant victory in the rain-soaked Moto2 race, fighting off an all-or-nothing attack from local hero Jonas Folger (Dynavolt Kalex) at the final corner. Zarco’s winning advantage was just six hundredths of a seconds but the 25 points he took for his fourth win of 2016 were a huge bonus for the championship leader.
The race was most notable for the number of riders who fell victim to the treacherously slippery track, several of them sliding off and remounting, only to slide off again. Just 15 of the original 27 starters finished.
The most significant fallers were Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas Kalex) who had been equal on points with Zarco and Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Kalex), who had been just five points behind Zarco and Rins. Lowes fell twice. Third finisher was Julian Simon (QMMF Speed Up), scoring his first podium since 2012.
