OCTANE NUMBER
The octane rating or Research Octane Number (RON) informs about the quality of fuel and the amount of compression it can withstand before igniting or detonating. Petrol engines are spark-ignited and, therefore, require the air and fuel mixture to be compressed before ignition. Higher-compression engines require higher octane fuel to allow for better combustion. Not only does it release more heat and power, it also leads to reduced unwanted exhaust emissions due to a cleaner burn. The standard octane rating today is 91RON, with more premium quality higher-octane fuel available at select fuel stations.
