FUN AND FIERY AUSSIE Jack Miller has crashed 43 times since graduating to MotoGP at the start of 2015. That makes him the most floored rider on the grid, so his win at Assen last June couldn’t have come at a better time, because it eased the pressure from team, factory and sponsors.

Miller won the race in the rain, beating Marquez into second. Some people say wet wins don’t count, but a win is a win, especially in MotoGP, where you always have to hang it out to beat the world’s fastest riders.

Sure, tricky conditions always favour a rider with nothing to lose. Miller happily took big risks at Assen, aware that a crash and subsequent loss of points would have little effect on his season, whereas a win could turn around his whole career. Meanwhile, Marquez knew he needed points to retain his championship advantage, so he was better off with 20 points than none.

Miller’s 2017 chances This will be the third and final year of Miller’s three-year HRC contract, signed in 2014. Most of all the youngster needs to stop crashing.
