Honda Activa Achieves 15 Million Mark

-

HMSI recently rolled out the 15 millionth Activa from their plant in Gujarat. HMSI launched the Activa back in 2001. In its début year itself HMSI were able to sell just 55,000 units. However, fast forward to 2017, and the Activa has overtaken motorcycles to become the number one selling two-wheeler in the country. In the last decade, the Activa has posted increasing sales with each passing year and today the company is selling around 2.7 million units (FY 2016-17).

On this occasion, Minoru Kato, President and CEO, HMSI, said, “Globally developing markets similar to India, especially Thailand and Indonesia, have already shifted to scooterisation. Now, India is getting scooterised like never before. In just seven years, the scooter segment contribution to total industry has doubled from 16 per cent (in 2009-10) to 32 per cent (in 201617). And leading this trend is the Activa which single-handedly re-activated the declining scooter segment way back in 2001 and became the Number One selling two-wheeler both in India and the world. Honda believe that there is huge future potential for scooterisation, more so in tier-II and tier-III towns. The trust of Indian families has already made Activa the first scooter in the history of Indian two-wheeler industry to cross the 1.5 crore customers landmark.”
