ENGINE MAPS
In bikes with electronic fuel-injection, the control unit for the fuel system is loaded with a set of pre-programmed ‘maps’ which dictate how much fuel is to be injected at what engine speed, based on everything from air pressure and air temperature to fuel quality and throttle position. The control unit can also vary the fuel injection as well as ignition timing dynamically to improve engine response, efficiency, and performance. Modern sport bikes such as the Ducati 1299 Panigale and Aprilia RSV4 let riders fine-tune these maps, using specified software applications.
