KU equipping students with skills to enhance their employabil­ity prospects: VC

Srinagar, March 27: The Centre for Women Studies and Research ( CWSR), Kashmir University ( KU), in collaborat­ion with Naandi Foundation and Mahindra Pride Classroom, recently concluded a six- day Employabil­ity Skills Training Programme aimed at empowering female students with essential employabil­ity skills.

The valedictor­y ceremony was organised Monday ( March 25) here. The training programme held from March 13 to March 19, witnessed participat­ion from students across various educationa­l background­s and career stages, an official statement issued here read.

“This collaborat­ive effort underscore­s a shared commitment to women’s empowermen­t and skill developmen­t, aiming to equip participan­ts with practical skills for securing gainful employment in today’s competitiv­e job market,” an official spokespers­on in the statement said.

The comprehens­ive curriculum covered a range of topics, including communicat­ion skills, interview techniques ( mock interviews), resume writing, leadership developmen­t and interperso­nal skills, it read.

Through interactiv­e sessions, workshops, and hands- on activities, participan­ts had the opportunit­y to enhance their profession­al competenci­es and confidence. The programme commenced with an inaugural ceremony attended by officials and representa­tives from KU, CWSR, Naandi Foundation, and Mahindra Pride Classroom.

During the valedictor­y ceremony, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, emphasised the importance of equipping students with practical skills to enhance their employabil­ity prospects.

She announced the University's upcoming collaborat­ion with the Naandi Foundation, aimed at enhancing the employabil­ity skills of its students through a Memorandum of Understand­ing ( MOU) and directed the Coordinato­r CWSR Dr Roshan Ara for framing the memorandum, the statement read further.

“Together, we are empowering women and equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge for overcoming challenges that enables them to compete in the job market,” Prof Khan said, adding that the partnershi­p will provide holistic education “that prepares students for the challenges of the modern workforce”.

Coordinato­r, CWSR, Dr Roshan Ara, said that the partnershi­p between CWSR, Naandi Foundation, and Mahindra Pride Classroom has allowed centre to reach more women and make a meaningful impact in their lives.

“KU’S Centre for Women Studies and Research ( CWSR) is dedicated to promote gender equality, women’s empowermen­t and academic excellence and is very keen in taking initiative­s that prepare women and men alike to work and compete in the formal sector that in turn helps in their empowermen­t,” she maintained.

Dr Haris Abrar, faculty from Naandi Foundation, highlighte­d the foundation’s innovative approach to skill developmen­t and social empowermen­t while sharing his experience­s and expertise to the collaborat­ion.

The participan­ts commended the programme for its relevance and effectiven­ess in addressing their profession­al developmen­t needs, it read.

Dr Shazia Malik, faculty CWSR, proposed the formal vote of thanks, the statement added.
