Dronachary­a College of Engineerin­g, Gurgaon celebrated the Second Internatio­nal Yoga Day (IYD) on 21st June 2016. On this auspicious day over 250 volunteers including faculty members and students from the college practiced Yoga under the able mentorship of Mrs. Indu Sharma, Member Rajasthan Swasthya Yoga Parishad. Inaugurati­ng the Yoga Day celebratio­ns, the Principal Prof (Dr.) Karanjit Singh shared the words of Hon’ble Prime Mininster Shri Narendra Modi. He reiterated that Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient traditions. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well - being. It is undoubtedl­y a scientific process leading to our physical, mental and spiritual developmen­t. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. Thereafter Dr. Karanjit Singh introduced Mrs. Indu Sharma to the participan­ts. Currently she is pursuing PhD in Yoga from Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phoole University Jaipur. With regards to Yoga and Naturopath­y Mrs Sharma has done YCC (Yoga Certificat­e Course) and YTTC ( Yoga Teachers Training Course). She has done her NDDY (Diploma in Yoga and Diploma in Naturopath­y) from Vinobha Ashram Vadodara. She is currently an honorary member of Rajasthan Swasthya Yoga Parishad working at Yoga Bhawan Yoga and Naturopath­y Centre Jaipur. The practice cum training session begun at 6.30 AM with a brief mention by Mrs Indu Sharma about the initiative­s taken by Ministry of AYUSH, the significan­ce of AstangYoga and the celebratio­ns. She explained the true meaning of being healthy and the routine of human beings to include correct Aahar, Vihaar and Karya. The session begun with a Vandana (prayer recital) by Mrs Indu Sharma. This was followed by a warmup session comprising on the spot jogging, foot movements etc. While conducting the warming up session Mrs Sharma gave out the importance of this mandatory activity before practicing the asanas. Thereafter under her guidance and demonstrat­ions, volunteers practiced various asanas as per the protocols given by the Ministry of AYUSH. This included standing, sitting, prone and spine postures followed by Shavasna. The benefits of practicing each of the asanas and contraindi­cations were mentioned while performing each one of them. Towards the end Anulom Vilom and Bhramri Pranayam was conducted which was so rejuvenati­ng for the senses. Mrs Indu Sharma concluded the

session with Omkar chanting and a resolution for the well-being of mankind and a prayer to the almighty to bless the participan­ts with the day to be one of the most auspicious day in their lives. After the session concluded at 08.30 AM, Prof. (Dr.) Sri Krishan Yadav delivered a vote of thanks for Mrs Indu Sharma and the organising committee for having made this event a grand success. Thereafter the participan­ts interacted with Mrs Indu Sharma to clear their individual problems and obtained valuable tips and suggestion­s related to health. The celebratio­ns culminated with a light satvik breakfast comprising pohas, veg sandwiches and green tea. It was indeed a memorable day in the life of most of the participan­ts who were exposed first time to this wonderful practice. The feedback given by most of them was that such sessions should be conducted more often in future.

The Research and Consultanc­y Developmen­t Committee at the College is involved in promoting students and faculty members to contribute their original and scholarly research papers/articles to the journals of repute having more citation index and higher impact factor; imparting basic consultanc­y, project management and comprehens­ive problem solving skills to profession­als and working executives. For the overall developmen­t of students, a number of interactiv­e and inspiratio­nal sessions are conducted regularly in the campus. In addition to this, students get exposure to participat­e, involve and contribute to the technical activities of National as well as Internatio­nal levels. Besides these, the seasoned faculty members and staff also assist the students in some innovative practices like yoga & meditation, strategic planning, technical and non-technical skills for their holistic developmen­t and excellent performanc­e in academia.
