Manufacturing Excellence

The companies sustained adherence to quality and compliance has helped develop a unique brand in an otherwise crowded industry. It enjoys a unique market position with almost nil competition from other manufacturers plying in the same market. The sheer variety and breadth of its operations remains unrivalled so far. The company has strategically

aligned its manufacturing capacities with current market trends and future forecasts. With huge manufacturing capacities on offer, marketing partners have had the opportunity to utilize their capital on selling activities, while maintaining a lean infrastructure and mitigating risks from redundant resources. With strict quality parameters already in place, our partners trust us with their largest brand.

Highest Quality Every Time

As the country’s largest finished drug manufacturer, the company is responsible for the health and wellbeing of millions of individuals. It takes this responsibility very seriously, ensuring that every dosage unit that leaves their sites lives up to the most stringent quality standards. It is one of the few providers who offer customized, dedicated manufacturing units, tailored to the exact needs of our valued partners. The companies’ streamlined processes, exhaustive protocols and documentation make the entire manufacturing process foolproof and sustainable. The company believes that quality is built into the product and that testing of the finished drug product alone is insufficient for control of product quality. GMP guidelines cover all aspects of production - from the starting materials, premises, and equipment to the qualifications, training and personal hygiene of staff and management. Manufacturing controls have been installed at various points to ensure high product quality at every stage of the value chain.

Continuous Innovation

The company utilizes a significant percentage of its revenue for R&D activities. Its team of scientists is always at work trying to develop formulations that help our clients deliver what they have promised. Unique Technology based Solutions Apart from offering all standard dosage forms, It have also developed some specialized formulations that involve a variety of controlled-release mechanisms. These technologies can be applied to a number of products to enhance the patient drug experience: Bilayered Tablet Enhanced: This is a unique tablet with benefits of both bi-layered and tablet-in-tablet. This is a single tablet which offers an immediate release, sustained release and delayed release function

Oral Jellies: A unique dosage form developed at Akums, this helps in taste masking of drugs and easy dispersion in a pleasantly flavored oral jelly with a great mouth feel and organoleptic properties. Apart from sildenafil jelly, we have also developed alendronate and albendazole jelly. Some of our recent awards include: Looking at the Future This is an innovative dosage form designed in house at Akums, the powders and tablets disintegrate on administration in the mouth. This dosage form is useful when quick onset of action is required. This is also very useful in populations who have swallowing difficulties Bi-Layered Tablet: This tablet is made up of two distinct layers (usually of different colors) lying on top of another. Bi-layer tablets are very useful when two incompatible API’s are to be administered together. Tablet-in-Tablet: This technology allows for simultaneous administration of two different drugs together in a single tablet wherein a smaller tablet is encased within a larger outer tablet. This technology improves patient compliance, reduces pill burden. Multiple Tablets in a capsule: This technology allows for the filling of a single capsule shell with multiple tablets and pills. This allows for development of a single dosage form for multiple drugs and in the development of sustained release forms Inlay Tablet: A type of layered tablet in which instead the core tablet being completely surrounded by coating, top surface is completely exposed, reduction in coating forms a thinner tablet and lesser wastage due to defective tablets from capping of top coating Gastric Floating Tablet: These tablets have been specially designed for targeted action on the stomach lining, instead of passing into the intestine with other stomach contents; they keep floating in the stomach fluid and release their contents in the stomach over time for targeted action. Effervescent Tablets & Powder: Effervescent powders and tablets, which are dissolved in water before administration, have been formulated as an alternative dosage form for formulators to improve taste and for a gentle action on a patient's stomach. Form, Fill & seal Technology: It are one of the few players in India who offers FFS technology for aseptic processing. This technology minimizes operator intervention and contamination risk in the filling

and packaging of liquid parenteral drugs. In this technology, polymeric material is formed and sealed inline to a container of choice, while the container is being filled. Ready to use Antibiotic Syrups: Pediatric antibiotic preparations are usually available as dry powders for reconstitution with clean cool water. They have developed ready to use antibiotic syrups which do not need any reconstitution, improving compliance and efficacy. product which then undergoes various testing and analytical procedures. If all goes well, the product is filed for approval. These ready to market products are then positioned to its partners. This model helps in reducing the market to launch time while eliminating R&D costs for the partners. The company currently offers more than 2500 finished formulations; including fixed dose combinations, across all therapeutic segments and dosage forms. It product offering includes:

CSR Interventions and Activities at Akums

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has never been a mere set of mandatory legal provisions at

Akums. The company believes that it is a moral and social obligation to give back to the society that has nurtured us. Their CSR activities are

spread over broad categories like:

• Environment

Disaster Relief Initiatives at

Akums

Devastating floods and landslides rocked Kedarnath in the year 2013; this was one of the worst natural disasters to hit the country in recent years. In its wake the floods left a huge toll death and destruction in the valley. Due to difficult terrain and destroyed roads and bridges it became very difficult to transport aid to the people who were stranded in the midst of all this destruction. Akums was one of the first companies to reach with aid during this time. Relief aid consisting of clothes, medicines, food and other essentials was sent regularly for three weeks in truck consignments. The company also sent a relief package following earthquake at Nepal.

Awards and Accolades

Akums has been honored with well over 50 awards in the last five years in the areas of quality, reliability, innovation and productivity. We are especially proud of our recent inclusion in the list of Fortune 500 companies (July 2016 Special Issue) with an overall sector ranking of 12. Akums also recently featured in FORBES INDIA, March 2017 issue.

Looking at the Future

A very important part of the company’s future strategies is to focus on new technologies that will reduce “patient pill burden”. Akums will continue to actively pursue new tools to manufacture formulations with a reduced dosage frequency, for they believe it will not only help economize the cost but will have a huge impact on patient compliance, which is still an important factor for the failure of a number of therapies. The world Pharma sector is in a state of transition, an array of deals and asset swaps have taken place in the recent times. Akums is actively looking to capitalize on this trend, with a host of partnerships that will allow us to solidify our global position while offering our suite of high quality drug manufacturing at low costs. Another category is that of nutritional supplements, with India topping the charts as one of the most malnourished population in the world, Akums wants to focus on developing low cost nutritional supplements and food adjuvants which will help in alleviating key vitamin and mineral deficiencies in the population at large. With its NSF-approved Maxcure Nutravedics Unit, it is in a fortunate position to deliver this. One of its future strategies is to come up with a range of products in the vitamin-mineral, Ayurvedic, liposomal and plant-derived category that are easy to administer and offer no bioavailability or taste challenges.
