It is all good go­ing when things run within the fam­ily. Elin Elec­tron­ics Ltd. is one such en­ter­prise. A joint fam­ily busi­ness, this com­pany was set up in 1969 by the Sethia fam­ily mem­bers with an ini­tial in­vest­ment of Rs 40 to 50 lakh. They are ba­si­cally in­volved in man­u­fac­tur­ing of mo­tors, con­sumer ap­pli­ances and small ap­pli­ances. This firm has three man­u­fac­tur­ing plants – one in Ghazi­abad (6 acres; mo­tors, auto parts and LED lights), Baddi (6 acres; elec­tri­cal ap­pli­ances and LED torches) and Goa (2 acres; ra­dios). Elin Elec­tron­ics Ltd., which is en­gaged in B2B ac­tiv­i­ties with man­u­fac­tur­ing only for OEMs, turned in with Rs640 crore in 2016-2017. Its client list com­prises names like Philips, Pana­sonic, Gruner, Mushasi, Car­rier, IFB, Pres­tige, Havells, Daikin, Voltas, DENSO, Mon­delez, Faber, IFB and Eveready. Says B.S. Sethia, one of the flag­ship bear­ers and Who­le­time Di­rec­tor, Tech­ni­cal, of this unit, “we are very proud to have been as­so­ci­ated with Philips since the last four decades and also preen about the fact that we man­age 95 per­cent client re­ten­tion rate.” The oth­ers on this ver­sa­tile man­age­ment team in­clude M.L. Sethia – the Chair­man and Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor; Vi­nay Kumar Sethia, - the Who­le­time Di­rec­tor, Com­mer­cial; Ka­mal Sethia – the Who­le­time Di­rec­tor, Mar­ket­ing; San­jeev Sethia – Who­le­time Di­rec­tor, MS; Kishore Sethia – Who­le­time Di­rec­tor – Works; In­ter­est­ingly, ex­ports take care of two to three per­cent of the an­nual turnover of the Delhi-based Elin Elec­tron­ics. This com­pany has a staff strength of about 3500; and ten peo­ple take care of the sales and mar­ket­ing ac­tiv­i­ties here. Also, 80 per­cent of the em­ploy­ees have been around and about in the firm since the last ten to fif­teen years. An ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001: 2004, TS 16949:2009 cer­ti­fied en­tity, Elin Elec­tron­ics also has a good 80 to 90 em­ploy­ees ded­i­cated to­wards its re­search and de­vel­op­ment wing. For this, it has a DSIR recog­nised R&D cen­tre with an in­te­grated world class tool room. B.S. Sethia, who is the chair­per­son elect of the Elec­tron­ics and Com­puter Soft­ware Ex­port Pro­mo­tion Coun­cil, is also a mem­ber of the CII-ICTE com­mit­tee and an ex-mem­ber of the CII-Na­tional Coun­cil Chair­man, El­cina Elec­tron­ics Man­u­fac­tur­ing

Clus­ters (P.) Ltd. along with be­ing a mem­ber of the board of man­age­ment of Jain Vish­waBharati In­sti­tute. Work­ing with a mis­sion to log in growth rates of 15 per­cent in the next half-decade, this com­pany be­lieves that “it is strict fol­low­ing of ethics and Jain prin­ci­ples that has carved the way for our suc­cess.” This man­u­fac­tur­ing en­tity is presently mak­ing use of about 70 per­cent of its ca­pac­ity. In­ci­den­tally, Elin Elec­tron­ics, an orig­i­nal de­sign man­u­fac­turer, has rolled out the de­signs for elec­tronic/ elec­tri­cal ap­pli­ances, mini/mi­cro mo­tors and com­po­nents/parts like sheet metal parts/in­jec­tion moulded parts, irons for Pana­sonic and visi cool­ers for Mon­delez. In ad­di­tion, this con­cern also sup­plies mi­cro/ mini mo­tors un­der the aegis of its own brand for a mix of ap­pli­ances like cool­ers, mix­ers and chim­neys. This man­u­fac­tur­ing en­tity, to its full credit, has a plethora of awards up its sleeve. Some of th­ese are: En­vi­ron­ment Lead­er­ship Award 2017, Hi­machal Pradesh, Win­ner In­dia SME 100 Awards by In­dia SME Fo­rum in 2016; 3rd Na­tional Pro­duc­tiv­ity & In­no­va­tion Award from the Na­tional Pro­duc­tiv­ity Coun­cil; Re­gional Best Sup­port Award from DENSO, Ja­pan; Qual­ity and De­liv­ery Per­for­mance Award from Minda Sil­ica Engg Ltd.; Best Cost Per­for­mance Award from DENSO; Asian Qual­ity Lead­er­ship award for best class man­u­fac­tur­ing in 2012; Ex­cel­lence in Elec­tron­ics Award from the gov­ern­ment of In­dia in 1994. The run through of the elec­tron­ics prod­uct pro­file from Elin Elec­tron­ics in­cludes dies and moulds LED Lights/ Lu­mi­naires/ Torches as well. Its ap­pli­ance list­ing com­prises elec­tric iron, toaster, mixer grinders, hand blenders, hair dry­ers, hair straight­en­ers, au­dio prod­ucts and their ilk. A mat­ter to re­ally feel good about is that Elin Elec­tron­ics has man­aged to cor­ner 3.2 per­cent of the In­dia EMS/ODM mar­ket and it comes within the very ex­clu­sive club of the top five play­ers in this field. With such fig­ures and sta­tis­tics al­ready be­hind it, this man­u­fac­tur­ing hub is all set to scale fur­ther trail­blaz­ing heights in the times to come.
