Accident cover for train travel

With the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporatio­n (IRCTC) planning to launch insurance scheme for passengers from September onwards, all those booking tickets from its website will be able to avail of a personal accident cover.

Insurers including Shriram General, Royal Sundaram and ICICI Lombard General Insurance will provide the cover.

▪Click on insurance option

▪Money is auto-debited with ticket price if a customer

▪clicks on the insurance option If any accident occurs, the insurer pays the family or

▪insured for disability, hospitalis­ation or death

would provide coverage against personal accident and disabiliti­es caused due to accidents. He added that for hospitalis­ation, too, compensati­on would be provided by the insurance company.

Premiums would be less than ~2 for a cover of ~10 lakh. While it was earlier expected that only public sector insurers would provide the cover, three private general insurers would be on board.
