PLAYING WITHOUT RULES
India's dismal results in Olympics has put the focus on the country's sports administration. Most sports federations/associations are run without any proper governance structures. Politics and conflicts of interests are rampant. Bengaluru-based corporate governance firm Ingovern Research studied the structure and financial details of 27 sports bodies, including the Indian Olympic Association. It has called for enhanced governance standards that would lead to greater involvement of all stakeholders, greater funding and better performance. While the BCCI made an income of ~ 1,266 cr, none of the bodies analysed crossed ~100 cr. Hockey India topped the chart at about ~94 crore. Some numbers from the report:
