Minister raps Centre on electronics
Karnataka’s IT Minister Priyank Kharge says the Centre is shooting itself in the foot by not being flexible enough in framing policies for attracting high-end electronics manufacturers, such as Apple.
“Make in India” needs strong policies, but the Centre must first ensure an ecosystem. For this, it should relax the local component sourcing norms for manufacturers for at least the first few years. “I understand all the components can’t be manufactured here right away. You need to start somewhere but give them a time frame within which they need to ensure a set percentage of components are manufactured here,” he said.
