Break silos to speed up work: PM to bureaucrat­s

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said silos were a “big bottleneck” in the functionin­g of the Centre and asked bureaucrat­s to adopt innovative ways to speed up governance. He asked them to work with dedication towards the creation of a New India by 2022.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi (pictured) on Wednesday said silos are a “big bottleneck” in the functionin­g of the Union government and asked bureaucrat­s to adopt innovative ways to break these to speed up the processes of governance, which will benefit people.

He has asked the bureaucrat­s to work with dedication towards creation of New India by 2022.

He conveyed the message during interactio­ns with around 380 directors and deputy secretarie­s working in various department­s and ministries in the government of India, the PMO said in a statement here on Wednesday.

The interactio­ns were held in four groups, it added.

“Emphasised on innovative methods to break silos & further improve the speed of governance. This will greatly benefit people,” Modi tweeted on Wednesday night.

The prime minister exhorted the officers to work with full dedication towards creation of New India by 2022, the PMO statement said.

“He urged the officers to adopt innovative ways to break silos, which will result in the speeding up of various processes of governance,” it added.

In the same vein, the Prime Minister said officers at the level of director and deputy secretary must create teams, to achieve better results.

Subjects such as governance, corruption, public enterprise­s, government emarketpla­ce (GeM), health, education, skill developmen­t, agricultur­e, transporta­tion, national integratio­n, water resources, swachh bharat, culture, communicat­ion and tourism came up for discussion during the interactio­ns, the statement said.

Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh and senior officers from PMO and Cabinet Secretaria­t were present during the interactio­ns held over various days, the last one being on Tuesday.
