Inth er es ult sr el eased by the urban development ministry survey of 434 cities, Ind ore was first and capital city Bhopal was at second place. Last year, these two cities were ranked 25 th and 21 st respectively. The amount of work that has been done on the cleanliness front can be estimated from the fact that in the first survey of 2014, Indore was ranked at 149 th place. This time, in the 50 most clean cities, 11cities of Madhya Prade share included, also other23 cities of the state have got the place in the top 100 cities. The visionary government headed by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan is responsible for this progress in the state's performance. Large-scale construction of toilets, urinals, public toilets is being carried across the state. In January 2017 both Indore and Bhopal were declared open-defecation free cities. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has committed that by 2019, the entire state will be made open defecation free. Every day more than 50,000 kg of garbage comes out in Indore, which is the cleanest city in the country. This comprises 15,000 kg of plastic garbage. The Municipal Corporation has made specific arrangements for collection of plastic waste. Indore and Bhopal are working in a scientific way to solve the waste management. The results of which are quite evident. Since the last year results, the municipal corporation has started the campaign tomake Bhopal top-notch city in this aspect. At the same time, Indore is determined to maintain its top spot. Bhopal Municipal Corporation has deployed wiping machines for the first time. Arrangements are being made tomake compost units at 10 locations in the city where manure compost will be made out of it. The municipal corporation of Indore has taken the initiative of making fertilizer from garbage and selling it at a nominal cost. In Bhopal, 188 public toilets have been made, where the municipal corporation is responsible to provide regular water. In fact, cleanliness cannot be achieved by only government's efforts. This is the process of mutual participation. No city can be made clean without the contribution of citizens. In such a scenario, Madhya Pradesh performance also exhibits its citizens' awareness. It is certain that the performance of the state will be overwhelming in coming days.
