CPI(M), RSP join others to move no-confidence motion against govt
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) joined the Congress, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) to move a no-confidence motion against the central government in the Lok Sabha.
The CPI (M) and RSP urged Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to include their motion in the agenda for Tuesday. The CPI (M) has nine MPs and the RSP has one in House.
Parliament didn’t meet on Monday because of a holiday for Ram Navami.
The Budget session of Parliament is scheduled to end on April 6. There is speculation that the government might conclude it earlier due to continued disruptions.
Mahajan has said she cannot take up the no-confidence motions of the Congress, TDP and YSRCP as the House has not been in order. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), YSRCP, TDP and Congress members have been disrupting proceedings.
The Congress has been demanding a discussion on the Punjab National Bank fraud case, while TDP and YSRCP want special category status for Andhra Pradesh. The AIADMK has demanded for setting up a Cauvery Management Board.
The YSRCP, which has nine MPs in the Lok Sabha, said the would resign when the session is adjourned without an announcement over the grant of special category status to Andhra Pradesh. The party has also challenged members of the rival TDP, which has 16 members, to resign.
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), whose members have also been protesting in the Lok Sabha, said on Monday it would not enter the well of the House. The TRS has been protesting, demand the power to increase the quota of reservations be given to states.
“With adjournment taking place for so many days, a misconception is coming among people as if we are letting the House to be adjourned. In fact, AIADMK is also protesting (in the Well),” TRS leader K Keshav Rao said.
