13 sanctions, but not fully complied with
There are at least 13 internationally recognised economic sanctions against trade, investment and transactions on the North Korean government or citizens. All of these, initiated by the United Nations Security Council, started hitting Pyongyang since the regime started exhibiting its nuclear weapons in 2006. However, while the regime continued to reach out to the erstwhile Soviet Bloc economies, the 2013 sanctions aimed at shutting the nation out of the international finance system have hit the nation hard. However, last year, a report by the UN showed that many nations have not fully complied with the sanctions.
