Amazon to offer 8,000 direct jobs at career fair

Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, said it will offer more than 8,000 direct jobs across 35 cities in the country, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Gurgaon, and Mumbai, at its firstever ‘Career Day’ in India on September 16. These opportunit­ies are spread across corporate, technology, customer service, and operations verticals.

Ahead of its first-ever ‘Career Day’ in India on September 16, Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, said it is offering more than 8,000 direct jobs across 35 cities in the country, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Gurugram, and Mumbai.

The other cities where it will offer jobs include Kolkata, Noida, Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Ludhiana, Pune, and Surat. These opportunit­ies are spread across corporate, technology, customer service, and operations verticals.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy will share his career experience and provide advice to jobseekers. “Our commitment in India is that we will create about two million direct and indirect jobs by 2025,” said Deepti Varma, HR leader, corporate, APAC, and MENA, Amazon, during an interview.

“We’ve already created about one million direct and indirect jobs. Even during the pandemic, we had nearly created about 300,000 direct and indirect jobs across technologi­es, content creation, retail, logistics, and manufactur­ing,” Varma said.

Besides India, Amazon is hosting the event for the first time in Japan, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, UK, and Canada. “For the past two years, Career Day has been hosted in the US and looking at the response, we decided to scale it up,” said Varma.

During the event, 140 Amazon recruiters will conduct 2,000 free, one-on-one career coaching sessions with job-seekers across the country. The recruiters will offer advice on how to look for jobs effectivel­y, resume-building skills, and interview tips.

“This Career Day, we look forward to sharing our longterm commitment to tapping into India’s potential in the 21st century, and career opportunit­ies to empower and enable this legacy.”

With festivity around the corner, e-commerce firms are scaling up their hiring initiative­s. Experts such as Rituparna Chakrabort­y, co-founder and EVP at Teamlease Services, said India Inc’s intent to hire increased to 38 per cent in Q2 as volume hiring was back in vogue.
