The bank has budgets and targets for everyone; the good performer is rewarded at the end of the year
CHALLENGE – Variable pay, bonuses/incentives are capped, as SBI is a public sector bank; there is not much scope for rewarding performers
SUCCESSION PLANNING
There will be at least four choices for posts of general manager, chief general manager and deputy managing director
CHALLENGE – The rise to posts of managing director and chairperson is decided by the political establishment. The government at times also gives extension to the top boss, which upsets the apple cart
