HANGEUL PROCLAMATION DAY South Koreans take great pride in celebrating Hangeul Proclamation Day — the day the Korean script called Hangeul was invented by King Sejong. Prior to the Hangeul writing system, the Koreans used Chinese script; but due to lack of educational programmes, many remained illiterate. As of today, South Korea owes much of its success to the Hangeul writing alphabet and writing system. People usually enjoy this national public holiday with a day off from work and outings with their families. publicholidays.co.kr/hangeul-day
