KLM to launch non-stop services to Mumbai and Colombo from Amsterdam

-

KLM is to launch a new Amsterdam-Mumbai route from October 29, served by the carrier’s B787-9 aircraft.

The three times-weekly non-stop flights will operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, departing Schiphol at 1300 and landing in Mumbai at 0155 the following day, before leaving the Indian city at 0400 and arriving back in Amsterdam at 0845.

Last year, Jet Airways moved its European hub from Brussels to Amsterdam, in the process forming a codeshare deal with KLM and Delta. KLM’s president and CEO, Pieter Elbert said that the carrier’s presence in India “has grown enormously since we began our strategic cooperation with Jet Airways.”

Elbert adds, “The introduction of a direct service to Mumbai, the economic heart of India, means KLM can now offer its customers even better access to 48 destinations across India, as well as destinations elsewhere on the Indian subcontinent and in Asia.

“This latest addition will bring the total number of direct flights between the Netherlands and India next winter to 31 flights a week. This will be a great stimulus for ties between the two countries.”

KLM and Jet Airways both offer year-round daily flights between Amsterdam and Delhi, while Jet Airways also offers a year-round daily service from Mumbai, and a daily route from Bangalore (launching this winter).

The Dutch carrier will also launch a direct service between Amsterdam and Colombo from October 30, 2017. A Boeing 787-9 will fly the route on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Flight KL0873 will take off from Amsterdam at 0940 and arrive in Colombo at 2345. Return flight KL0874 will arrive back in Amsterdam at 0820 after leaving Colombo at 0150.

Currently there is no direct service between these two capital cities by KLM or any other airline. klm.com
