For the wellbeing of employees, several companies are taking initiatives in offering tips on leading a healthy life today, workplaces are inducting wellness programmes that deal with stress, sleep issues and other problems that arise due to a strenuous work pattern.

CLEAN EATING

Talking about food, frequent business travel generally exposes you to high fat and sugar which are liberally used to create popular foods on menus. One must avoid things such as canned juices, coffee, tea, pastries, biscuits and all acidic food as they all bring a sugar rush into the body and suddenly a bout of tiredness while travelling.

To make business travels comfortable, one must incorporate the following habits in one’s routine:

Start preparing for your travel at least 48 hours before, and keep yourself hydrated during the journey. Catch up on a good sleep.

Get regular massages with herbal aroma oils before the bath.

Try and include seeds, nuts, fresh vegetable salad, freshly squeezed juice in your breakfast. Opt for a light lunch which is low on sugar and carbs. Instead incline towards varieties of proteins, whole grains and fresh vegetables. Avoid caffeine and alcohol especially if it is a day trip as it can lead to acid reflux in the body.

PHYSICAL WELLBEING

Hectic corporate travel also takes a huge toll on your physical wellness. Hence, it is recommended to practise these wellness tactics on-the-go:

Small breathing exercises during regular intervals are helpful. Yoga practitioners who have mastered pranayama, can try out the Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) and Bahya kumbhaka (external retention and exhalation) — these breathing tactics can reduce your stress and help you stay calm on a hectic day. If you have the luxury of time, add the Viparita Karani - a yoga asana to your list.

A brisk walk or if you have access to gym would be great to catch up some cardio exercises. But nothing less than 30 minutes.

CONSCIOUS APPROACH

The best way to ensure that your Vata (one of the three ayurvedic principles in the body) is not disrupted, is by being conscious of what you eat and what you do. A few practices which help me to stay inclined towards not disrupting my Vata apart from clean eating and physical wellbeing mentioned alongside are:

I utilise the time on the journey to read but with some large fonts as smaller letters can cause undue stress on your eyes and further strain your nerves.

I also carry an eye mask (lavender infused) and ear plugs— do not over expose using ocular and auditory senses.

After my work travel, I practise oleation (internal and external oiling of the body) with herbal oils such as Ksheerabala thailam followed by a soak or shower for 5 to 10 minutes.
