CONCOR launches shuttle service from CITPL

-

The Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) introduced shuttle service for import containers from Chennai International Terminals (CITPL) to ICDTondiarpet ( TNPM) from July 24.The port management was holding talks with the terminal management and with the CONCOR senior officials to introduce such a train service so that the congestion due to container trailers on road could be curtailed. Under the new arrangement, four rakes, with a capacity of 80 TEUs per trip, can be evacuated from the CITPL railway siding to CONCOR’s ICD located at Tondiarpet, which is about 10 km from the port.

Chennai Port also has a direct connectivity to CONCOR’s ICD located at Whitefield, Bengaluru. According to terminal sources, a fully laden rake from Chennai Port’s CITPL terminal could reach the ICD Tondiarpet in about four to six hours time, on par with the road movement of containers.
