April signals positive growth
The Indian automobile industry began the new year on a positive note. A total of 2,118,240 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycles were produced in April 2016 as against 1,909,842 vehicles produced in April 2015, registering a year-on-year growth of 10.91 per cent. The Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 17.36 per cent in April 2016, selling 53,835 numbers as compared to 45,872 numbers sold in the same month last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered a growth at 21.98 per cent with sales amounting to 23,515 units as compared to 19,277 units Summary Report: Production, Domestic Sales & Exports data for the month of April 2016 and Growth (Number of Vehicles) Exports April-February Category Segment/Subsegment Production April 2016 sold in the April 2015. Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) grew by 14.01 per cent during April 2016, registering sales of 30,320 units as compared to the sale of 26,595 units during the corresponding period last year. Three Wheelers posted a growth of 36.68 per cent in April 2016 with a sale of 44,645 numbers as compared to the sale of 32,665 units in April 2015. It would be interesting to note that the sale of three-wheeler passenger and goods carrier grew by 44.69 per cent and 7.64 per cent respectively in April 2016 over April 2015. In the case of LCVs, the growth was 13.19 per cent for passenger and 14.15 per cent for goods carriers in April 2016 over 2015.
