CV sales in June 2016

The Indian auto industry produced 6,431,495 vehicles in the first quarter (April-June 2016) of this fiscal, clocking a growth of 11.74 per cent, as compared to 5,775,638 vehicles produced during the correspond­ing quarter last fiscal. While exports were to be a matter of concern, the domestic market clocked a double digit growth in the first quarter of FY2017. In June 2016, a total of 1,795,894 vehicles were sold in India, clocking a growth of 10.7 per cent, as compared to 1,622,254 vehicles sold during the correspond­ing month last year.

The Commercial Vehicles segment clocked a growth of 12.99 per cent in April-June 2016, clocking a sale of 166,956 vehicles as compared to 147,757 units sold during the correspond­ing quarter last fiscal. In June 2016, 56,032 CVs were sold, clocking a growth of 5.63 per cent, as compared to 53,044 units sold during the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered a growth at 14.49 per cent, clocking a sale of 71,072 vehicles during the first quarter of this fiscal as compared to 62,076 vehicles sold during the correspond­ing period last fiscal. In June 2016, 22,606 M&HCVs were sold, clocking a growth of 1.90 per cent, as compared to 22,184 units sold during the correspond­ing month last year. While the M&HCV sales show a considerab­le drop when compared to May 2016 sales, Light Commercial Vehicles sales also displayed moderation. Clocking a growth of 5.63 per cent, 33,426 LCVs were sold in June 2016 as compared to 30,860 units sold during the same month last year. During the first quarter of this fiscal, LCVs grew by 11.91 per cent, clocking sales of 95,884 units as compared to 85,681 units sold during the correspond­ing period last fiscal. During the first quarter of this year, 139,497 three-wheelers were sold, clocking a growth of 23.39 per cent, as compared to 113,050 units sold during the correspond­ing period last fiscal. In June 2016, 48,373 three-wheelers were sold, clocking a growth of 10.22 per cent, as compared to 43,886 units sold during the correspond­ing month last year.

Exports

In April-June 2016, overall exports declined by (-) 9.70 per cent. Commercial Vehicles exports registered a growth of 7.22 per cent during the first quarter, with 26,159 units exported as compared to 24,397 units sold during the correspond­ing period last fiscal. In June 2016, 10,183 units of CVs were exported, clocking a 17.32 per cent, as compared to 8,680 exported during the correspond­ing period last year. In April-June 2016, 65,832 units of three wheelers were exported, clocking a decline of (-) 46.22 per cent, as compared to 122,410 units exported during the correspond­ing period last fiscal. In June 2016, 26,371 three wheelers were exported, marking a decline of (-) 26.99 per cent, as compared to 36,119 exported during the correspond­ing period last year. 92 quadricycl­es were exported in June 2016.
