M&HCV sales moderate: LCV sales grow

The Indian auto industry produced at total of 10,900,264 automobile­s in the period between April and August 2016, registerin­g a growth of 11.22 per cent over the same period last fiscal, when 9,800,197 units were sold. The Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 7.97 per cent in April-August 2016 with the sale of 271,805 units as compared to 251,750 units sold during the same period last fiscal. In the month of August 2016, 52,996 commercial vehicles were sold, marking a growth of 1.53 per cent when compared to 52,198 CVs sold in August 2015. In the period between April-August 2016, Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered a growth at 4.41 per cent with a sale of 112,916 units as compared to the sale of 108,151 units during the same period last fiscal. In August 2016, 20,537 M&HCVs were sold, marking a decline of (-) 10.76 per cent when compared to 23,014 units sold in August 2015. The Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) grew by 10.65 per cent during April-August 2016, selling 158,889 units as compared to the sale of 143,599 units during the correspond­ing period last fiscal. In August 2016, 32,459 LCVs were sold, marking a growth of 11.22 per cent, as compared to 29,184 LCVs sold in August 2015. Three Wheelers sales grew by 15.44 per cent in April- August 2016, selling 235,788 units as compared to the sale of 204,244 units during the same period last fiscal. In August 2016, 50,193 three wheelers were sold, marking a growth of 9.01 per cent as compared to 46,043 three wheelers sold during the same month last year.

Exports

In April-August 2016, overall automobile exports declined by (-) 11.16 per cent. Commercial Vehicles exports registered a growth of 8.53 per cent at 46,532 units as compared to 42,873 units. In August 2016, 10,168 CVs were exported, marking a growth of 7.46 per cent as compared to 9,462 numbers exported in August 2015. M&HCVs exported in August 2016 amounted to 3,778 units, marking a growth of 19.52 per cent over the export of 3,161 units in August 2015. LCVs exported in August 2016 amounted to 6,390 units, marking a growth of 1.41 per cent over 6,301 units sold in August 2015. Three Wheelers exports declined by (-) 39.31 per cent in April-August 2016 with the export of 122,789 units over 202,331 units exported during the correspond­ing period last fiscal. In August 2016, 27,043 three wheelers were exported, marking a decline of (-) 35.05 per cent, over 41,638 units exported in August 2015.
