CVs record single-digit growth in January 2017
The Indian auto industry produced a total of 21,086,185 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycle in AprilJanuary 2017 as against 19,882,485 in April-January 2016, registering a growth of 6.05 per cent over the same period last year. In January 2017, 1,849,253 vehicles were produced, down (-) 5.48 per cent, against 1,956,526 vehicles produced in the same month last year. Commercial Vehicles registered a growth of 3.03 per cent in AprilJanuary 2017 with the sale of 559,972 units as compared to 543,480 units sold in the corresponding period last fiscal. In January 2017, 61,239 CVs were sold, down (-) 0.72 per cent, against the sale of 61,683 CVs in January 2016. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) declined by (-) 1.53 percent with the sale of 232,589 units against the sale of 236,197 units in the corresponding period last fiscal. In January 2017, 28,704 M&HCVs were sold, up 0.61 per cent, against 28,530 units sold in January 2016. Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) grew by 6.54 percent during April-January 2017, selling 327,383 units against the sale of 307,283 units in the corresponding period last fiscal. In January 2017, 32,535 LCVs were sold, down (-) 1.86 per cent, against the sale of 33,153 LCVs in January 2016. Three Wheelers sales declined by (-) 1.09 percent in AprilJanuary 2017 with the sale of 437,302 units against the sale of 442,124 units in the corresponding period last fiscal. In January 2017, 31,345 three wheelers were sold, down (-) 28.21 per cent, against the sale of 43,662 three wheelers in January 2016.
Exports
In April-January 2017, overall automobile exports declined by (-) 7.39 per cent at 2,889,784 units as compared to 3,120,506 units exported in the corresponding period last fiscal. In April-January 2017, 91,250 CVs were exported, up 8.2 per cent, against the export of 84,331 CV in April-January 2016. In January 2017, 8,147 CVs were exported, down (-) 13.54 per cent, against the export of 9,423 CVs in January 2016. In January 2017, 4,310 M&HCVs were exported, up 37.48 per cent, as compared to 3,135 M&HCVs exported in January 2016. In January 2017, 3,837 LCVs were sold, down (-) 38.98 per cent, as against the sale of 6,288 LCVs in January 2016. In April-January 2017, three wheelers exports declined (-) 34.02 per cent at 237,309 as against 359,657 sold in April-January 2016. In January 2017, 20,143 three wheelers were sold, down (-) 24.79 per cent, as compared to 26,782 three wheelers sold in January 2016.
