Sales lack lustre

April 2017 failed to bring cheer to the Indian CV industry. In April 2017, 41,490 commercial vehicles were sold, down (-) 22.93 per cent, as compared to the sale of 53,835 units in the same month last fiscal. In April 2017, 46,823 commercial vehicles were produced, down (-) 28.75 per cent, as compared to 65,720 commercial vehicles produced during the same month last fiscal. The Indian auto industry produced a total of 2,242,739 vehicles – passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycl­es, in April 2017, recording an increase of 5.87 per cent, as compared to 2,118,466 automobile­s produced in India in April 2016. The production of Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) in April 2017 was 12,579, down (-) 55.92 per cent, as against the production of 28,536 M&HCVs in April 2016. In April 2017, 34,244 LCVs were produced, down (-) 7.91 per cent, against the production of 37,184 LCVs in April 2016. In April 2017, 10,602 M&HCVs were sold, down (-) 54.91 per cent, against the sale of 3,515 M&HCVs in April 2016. In April 2017, 30,888 LCVs were sold, up 1.87 per cent, against the sale of 30,320 LCVs in April 2016. Three Wheelers sales declined by (-) 18.05 percent in April 2017, at 36,588 as compared to the sale of 44,645 units in April 2016.

Exports

In April 2017, 318,699 automobile­s were exported, recording an increase by 30.44 per cent, as compared to the export of 244,319 automobile in April 2016. In April 2017, 4,062 commercial vehicles were exported, down (-) 40.97 per cent, as compared to the export of 6,881 per cent commercial vehicles in April 2016. In April 2017, 2,240 M&HCVs were exported, down (-) 14.5 per cent, against the export of 2,620 M&HCVs in April 2016. In April 2017, 1,822 were exported, down (-) 57.24 per cent, as against the export of 4,261 LCVs in April 2016. In April 2017, 22,254 three wheelers were exported, up 22.71 per cent, as against the sale of 18,135 three wheelers in April 2016. In April 2017, 44 quadricycl­es were exported, down (-) 79.25 per cent, as compared to the export of 212 quadricycl­es in April 2016.
