Tamil Nadu elec­tric bus trial

As part of its ef­forts to mod­ernise the trans­port ser­vices, Tamil Nadu gov­ern­ment con­ducted trial of an elec­tric bus re­cently. In­dus­try sources claim that the trial was con­ducted with an Ashok Ley­land elec­tric bus in the pres­ence of the state prin­ci­pal trans­port sec­re­tary, PWC Davi­dar. Look­ing to re­place 2000 ag­ing buses with mod­ern low floor, air-con­di­tioned elec­tric buses, Tamil Nadu Gov­ern­ment is claimed to be look­ing at the Ashok Ley­land Cir­cuit elec­tric bus, which was un­veiled in the sec­ond half of last year. T Venkatara­man, Head – Global Buses, Ashok Ley­land, has al­ready made it clear that the Cir­cuit elec­tric bus can be rolled out of its ei­ther pro­duc­tion fa­cil­ity de­pend­ing upon the de­mand. In dis­cus­sion with other govern­ments for the Cir­cuit elec­tric bus, which can travel up to 120 kilo­me­tres on a sin­gle change un­der stan­dard test con­di­tions, Ashok Ley­land is keen to be a front run­ner In the elec­tric CV space. It has en­gi­neered the Cir­cuit such that it can be man­u­fac­tured in mul­ti­ple plat­forms as per the cus­tomer’s re­quire­ments.
