Tamil Nadu electric bus trial
As part of its efforts to modernise the transport services, Tamil Nadu government conducted trial of an electric bus recently. Industry sources claim that the trial was conducted with an Ashok Leyland electric bus in the presence of the state principal transport secretary, PWC Davidar. Looking to replace 2000 aging buses with modern low floor, air-conditioned electric buses, Tamil Nadu Government is claimed to be looking at the Ashok Leyland Circuit electric bus, which was unveiled in the second half of last year. T Venkataraman, Head – Global Buses, Ashok Leyland, has already made it clear that the Circuit electric bus can be rolled out of its either production facility depending upon the demand. In discussion with other governments for the Circuit electric bus, which can travel up to 120 kilometres on a single change under standard test conditions, Ashok Leyland is keen to be a front runner In the electric CV space. It has engineered the Circuit such that it can be manufactured in multiple platforms as per the customer’s requirements.
