Bangalore bike taxis to be legal
Adding a new dimension to the word commercial vehicles, bike taxis are on the way to become legal in Bengaluru. The transport department, claimed an industry source, has started to look at representations from various stakeholders upon receiving instructions from the state government. A legal nod will ensure that bike taxis are re-introduced in the capital city of Karnataka. Among the companies that have sent in their representations is Uber. Uber has been running its bike taxi service under the UberMoto brand in 11 cites in India. Other than Uber, Ola and Rapido too had introduced on demand taxi service in Bangalore. They were however halted due to regulatory issues. The transport department found a way to seize the bikes by booking them through the app. as part of their enforcement drive. Said the source that the department is studying the pros and cons; about the safety and security of passengers – especially women, before giving a go ahead. A draft proposal on allowing bike taxis would be made soon, he added.
