Schaeffler fuel cell components
Schaeffler has taken to develop and manufacture key components for fuel cells as new energy carriers and electricity storage technologies in the face of irregular availability of renewable energies. Eyeing hydrogen as an alternative, which is available in almost unlimited quantities on the earth, Schaeffler has developed key components for fuel cells and fuel cell stacks, which are termed as socalled metallic bipolar plates. It has done so by leveraging its traditional core expertise in materials technology, forming technology, and surface technology. Convinced that the problem of global CO2 emissions cannot be solved with purely batterydriven vehicles alone, Schaeffler has developed the metallic bipolar plates to support heavy goods vehicles in particular. This, it feels, will require alternative energy storage systems and hydrogen in combination with the fuel cell. The combination of a battery and hydrogen could provide an attractive solution for achieving a longer range, according to Schaeffler’s sources.
